What is NextGEN?

NextGEN Gallery is a powerful picture & album plugin for WordPress. Users can import pictures from NextGEN gallery to attach to your blog articles.


Activate NextGEN Gallery plugins in WordPress

Log in to your WordPress, once in the administration page click on the 'Plugins' button located at the top-right corner.

Activate all the NextGEN plugins as the image shown below:

Upload/Import image(s) to your gallery

Beware! To prevent NextGEN to delete your photos/images imported from your NAS please un-tick this option as shown below prior to any image uploads.

Before you can publish pictures/photos inside your blog post you will need to first create a gallery within NextGEN. Let's create a gallery called 'test-gallery' in our example.

Follow the instructions below to add image(s) to the gallery we've just created. Please note that you can add multiple images at step 4 by re-browsing the next image you wish to upload after selecting the previous one.

Follow the instructions below if you wish to import image(s) from a server path then you are best to first create a folder under your default WordPress gallery folder which is (Mount the Qweb folder first!), from the Qweb folder, - 'wordpress/wp-content/gallery/'. Next, copy all the images to this folder we've just created. Finaly you will need to type in the server path as 'wp-content/gallery/test-gallery2' and press 'Import folder' to start.

Just a quick note that in NextGEN 'album groups galleries' therefore you may wish to create an album to group your similar galleries. Follow the instructions below to create an album called 'test-album'.

Then add both 'test-gallery' and 'test-gallery2' we created earlier to this album.

Import image(s)/gallery(s)/album(s) into your blog

Let's try to write a sample blog and this guide will demostrate how to import:

  • a single image
  • a gallery
  • an album

into your article.

Write a new post by clicking on 'Write' then 'Post' an web-based text editor will show up. Simply fill up the 'Title' and 'Post' with anything you like then click on the little icon on the top-right of the menu bar.

To import a single image, simply select the desired image along with your preferred options.

To import a gallery, simply select the desired gallery along with your preferred options.

To import the entire album, simply select the desired album along with your preferred options.

Once you finish editing your blog article change the 'Publish Status' to 'Published' and click on the 'Publish' button to publish your blog and to end the edit mode.
